The Lumaban Spirit Conquers: Klariz’s Inspiring CPA-Lawyer Journey

The path in pursuing law and taking the bar exam while being a Audit Senior Manager has been one of the most challenging yet rewarding journeys in my life. With the desire to grow both personally and professionally, I had an inkling that I had more to offer if I became a CPA-Lawyer.

But as any would experience, there are storms that need to be conquered. There were moments when both work and school demanded my full attention and work deadlines coincided with exams or quizzes. It became difficult to manage my time, and it was even more difficult doing it all alone. Thankfully, I had the support of my colleagues and Partners at P&A Grant Thornton. They were understanding and willing to make adjustments to my academic needs.

I wouldn’t have made it without the people around me. The leaders provided constant assurance, guidance, and emotional support— everything I needed to get through it. I’m deeply grateful for my co-managers who gladly took extra responsibilities on my behalf. The Partners had also arranged a considerable workload for me, provided financial assistance, and encouraged me to take a study leave at times when I doubted myself and needed a good focus.

I remember there was a time when I broke down and told them, "Hindi ko na po talaga kaya." But they continued to support me, and became my crutches when I felt weak and on the verge of surrendering. They reminded me of my strengths and the reasons behind my dream of wanting to become a lawyer.

To anyone considering a similar challenge, don’t be afraid to try and ask for help. Before enrolling in law school, I doubted whether I could manage both studying and working full-time. But looking back, I’m so glad I took the leap. And that leap wouldn’t have been possible without the Firm’s help. I realized that pursuing a goal is not just about wanting to try and do something; it's also about finding a company and a community of people who are willing to support and push for your personal and career growth.
