Shifting Gears: How Rei Found her Lane at P&A Grant Thornton

They say the wrong train can sometimes take you to the right station.

As a Business Economics graduate, my main goal was to pursue a career related to accounting or economics. However, fate redirected me to a different path and led me to P&A Grant Thornton as an intern at the Business Development Group.

During my internship, I was introduced to what business development is. I had the opportunity to attend events which helped me expand my connections and meet new friends. With the new skills I’ve learned, I was able to set my career goals and determine how I can achieve those. These experiences inspired me to stay in the Firm longer.

Once I entered the “adulting stage”, I shifted from simply observing and supporting my team to being the driver of my own work as a permanent employee. As time passed by, my responsibilities grew, and I have learned to be confident and accountable in taking on new projects. I am grateful that my experience during internship has prepared me for this— further giving me opportunities to familiarize myself with the work dynamics, team structure, and workflow of my unit.

P&A Grant Thornton has been a vital stepping stone in building my career because they offer a wealth of training programs, mentoring opportunities, and networking sessions, all of which have supported both my personal and professional growth. The support I’ve received from the Business Development team has been exceptional too. Even as an intern, I never felt isolated, and my team guided and encouraged me when I was faced with challenges.

My internship at P&A was far from ordinary. Who would have thought that one simple internship could turn into the foundation of a fulfilling career? It was truly a journey of growth, discovery, and transformation that set me on the right track to achieving the future that I desire.
